Antelope Island

Memorial Day 2010.

The storm that is coming in over the Great Salt Lake just makes it even more beautiful. Hmm, I wonder if there is any analogy in that to my life.

Thanks, Michael, for capturing this moment, this time in our lives. And thanks for spending it with us.

Beautiful! Are you glad you did it? I wish more women would embrace their pregnant bellies as the life-holding miracles they are!

This is probably a silly question but do people swim in the lake? Are there beaches? and if so is it clean? And if not, why? Inquiring minds and all!

Dang..I meant 'why' if you can't swim in it not why isn't it clean -(although now that I think of it, if it isn't, why?) Sheesh, you'd think I'd never written a sentence before! :-)

Terri--

According to my mom, people used to swim in it all the time. In fact, they liked it because the salt content of the water makes it easier to float. I personally have never gone swimming there. There is kind of a stink to the lake results in people choosing pools over the lake.

And yes, there are some beaches, when the water level is not too high.

I'm afraid I have lived here all my life but am far from being an expert on the lake. :)

Thanks Sarah...it's funny I've never seen a photo of anyone swimming in it. Sort of like the Salton Sea (although that's a true disaster).

In the 50's they were selling property around the Salton Sea like crazy..drawings on posters of people water skiing, smiling and waving, diving and swimming. It was actually being touted as the "California Riveria". There's a great documentary about it (I'm a documentary freak - I love them) Anyway it turned out to be (well until this recent Gulf oil spill) on of America's worst ecologial disasters. Fetid, stagnant, salty lake...all the birds and fish died the land is worth nothing and the Sea is drying up...but the story of it is great if you ever get a chance to see it. (and you like documentaries) I think Sonny Bono (do you remember him) was on a campaign to save the Salton Sea but it never happened.

I think the film was narrated by John Waters, it was titled "Plagues and Pleasures", 2006.

Sorry, sidetracked - again, I'm a documentary addict!

BTW, you look beautiful! Absolutely gorgeous!

Beautiful pictures, especially the one with the kids in the background. I never would have thought of that location, but it was perfect.
